Successfully and healthy lost 30 kg / 66 lb in 6 months
TLDR: After years of being obese with binge eating, I finally lost 30 kg and is currently halfway to my goal. Thankful to this r / keto community. Having struggled with poor dietary decisions that resulted in obesity for the past eight odd years, today I am very happy to be on the scale for my weekly weigh-in and see that I hit the 30kg mark in just under 6 months. This was something that I thought was impossible and I had made it up to myself at the age of 26 that I would be obese for the rest of my life. This thought process led me to gradually add a bit more weight and at my highest point I weighed 130 kg / 287 lb, for a height of 168 cm / 5’6 ”. On August 17 of last year, I decided enough was enough and gave the ketogenic method of eating a try along with intermittent fasting. My main motivation was that before I turned 30 (that would be April 2022), I wanted to be in a healthier and happier version of myself. I wanted to do my body a favor and free it from the hungry, starving hippo that it had been. As a person who loves to eat chicken, the transition from eating carbohydrates to a high-protein diet was not difficult, but rather pleasant. As I am from South Asia, rice was my staple food. It’s been 6 months and so far they are doing fine without him. I live in a different city / country / continent, more than 7000 km from my hometown. There were many days when I was so eager to cook rice, lentils, flour, etc. and satisfy my cravings. But I stayed strong and decided not to indulge even one meal. My character flaw is that either I get carried away or binge until I can’t move anymore. This, along with the need to be perfect all the time, has ruined all my previous attempts at leading a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. The weight loss began to occur in parallel and gradually, at its own pace. When Christmas rolled around, I made an impromptu trip home for a period of four weeks. This was going to be a big challenge for me, as it would be with my family, who I had not seen in the last 1.5 years and would be eating the usual carbohydrate-laden food and being in such an environment was something similar. of waving a red cloth (delicious carbohydrate-rich flavors) in front of a raging bull (the hungry and anxious ME). The first three weeks I was firm and I did not cheat and this was a surprise to my people and most of all I was surprised by my own ability to recover to eat non-ketogenic foods. It was then that I realized that I had finally come to have control over my mind when it came to eating food and how much I ate. So for the last week, I decided to eat some homemade rice dough food and also a dessert. I didn’t feel guilty, I didn’t feel like I was breaking a ‘streak’, rather I was confident that I would return home abroad and resume my diet and fasting again and invigorated. As promised, I flew back and resumed my healthy eating. And moving on to today, I hit the 30 kg milestone. I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 18 and have always had extremely irregular periods. However, since August 2020 (when I started Keto), I have had periods every month now following a healthy 28-32 day cycle. Also, the extrovert secretly hidden in me seems to be coming to the surface, now that I’ve lost so much weight. I am now 28 years old and still in the middle of my weight loss journey and my goal is to reach 70kg / 155lbs and have a strong and toned body. My dream is to give Ironman a serious chance in the future. For people who are in the same boat as me when I started, I would like to tell you that the Keto + IF combination works wonders, if you are looking to lose weight. Apart from that, it also has other health benefits, both physical and mental. It took me several years to finally get the motivation to pursue this, but all I really needed was a moment of change in the way I look at food. For this success, I am always grateful to this subreddit here and especially u / ReverseLazarus, who has an immense knowledge of Keto and whose responses, whether in my own posts or those of others, have helped me a lot. Thank you. If a bum like me can do it, believe me, you can do it too! PS: I am too shy to post a photo of myself, but I will definitely do it at some point, maybe when I reach a total loss of 50kg.
