I (22F) have never been successful in long term weight loss / weight maintenance without keeping a food diary.

SW: 195 pounds CW: 180 pounds LW: 138 pounds GW: 125 pounds 5’4 "Two years ago I was about the weight I am now (180 pounds) and I decided I needed to lose weight. I went keto, kept a food diary, and was very successful, losing over 40 pounds in 6 months with light exercise. So I decided it was over. I stopped tracking my food, but kept exercising like before. The weight accumulated slowly (about 15 pounds in 18 months). I discovered in quarantine that I have (and have always had) emotional tendencies to eat. Triggering emotions include boredom and loneliness, which were present throughout the quarantine. I gained an unreasonable amount of weight during this time (like 30 pounds in 15 weeks). I didn’t actually realize how much I was eating or how often. I think I knew it in my head, but I was avoiding the problem and ignoring it so I could continue to eat emotionally. FLASH FORWARD UNTIL JULY: You started keeping a food diary again. Immediately, I realized exactly where I was going wrong. He tackled the problem head-on. I found a hobby other than eating. Now I have relearned what it feels like to be physically hungry again and I am learning that it is not a negative feeling. I think I’m one of those people who can’t go with the flow; I need to be aware of what I’m eating all the time, low carb or not. Keeping a food diary isn’t just weight loss advice, it’s a lifestyle! TLDR; I lost weight and got everything back and more. Keep a food diary to track food problems, lose weight, and maintain weight loss.
