This diet has helped my daughter immensely, and I appreciate it. But please help a dad who got screwed.
So … I’m a single father, with a daughter. 2 years ago, her daughter had an obese BMI, she had self-esteem problems that led her to the hospital. Without going into more detail, also use this subreddit (why am I in a new account). But it goes without saying that it is my pride and joy, and I cannot express how proud I am of her for following this diet, which has probably saved her physically, and certainly mentally saved her.

But this is where I ask for help. r / FrugalKeto just doesn’t work. I … lost my job due to current events, and due to my negligence, we are barely doing well financially right now. I have enough to rent for a few months, but food ($ 60 per week for 2 people, I use about 20 myself) and utilities are being reduced. I’m fine with this, for me. Basically, I’ve been eating dry pasta, beans, chunks of meat for a few weeks. But … my daughter’s keto diet is 90% meat and cheese, and since eggs turned 33 cents each, she has seen the stress it causes us. She offered to give up on the diet for a while, but I told her it was okay. The problem is, I’ve seen her eat lettuce, chicken thighs, and pieces of meat with anything else we have, and I feel like I’ve failed as a parent. She says it’s okay, but … God, it just can’t be healthy for a 15-year-old to be eating the same 10 things for weeks. My question as a clueless parent is, what can I do? What kinds of things should I try to get for her (I live on Long Island) at the grocery market, which I can get as cheaply as possible, but it’s not just leftover ground beef, chicken drumsticks, iceberg lettuce / assorted vegetables ? and very cheap processed meats? Thank you guys, this community is amazing, I hope everyone stays safe.

Edit: I can’t believe the answer. Honestly, I made the post desperately, and held it in my mind as I headed for a job interview (supposedly, Aldi is hiring, it was a 1 hour trip, and they really didn’t even consider me), and now it is. many good tips! I would try to answer everyone, but I decided not to, since I honestly felt too emotional. I will ask her if she honestly doesn’t mind not being keto, but whatever her choice, I will do my best to help her with her goal. Finding deals and coupons is a great idea, Lidl seems to be pretty cheap right now. Also, don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine, I grew up in the fields, eating more calories or less won’t do me much. Thank you all for supporting this irresponsible father who got into all these problems. (especially to the kind soul that approached me)
Also, some things I wanted to say: I’m not good at these health things, I grew up in a place where what I could get was how much I ate, but:
– I want my daughter to eat a variety of foods, although she insists that it is okay, I feel terrible. Maybe this is healthy, but God, I just … I can’t.
-I will ask you what your goals are, but I refuse to suggest any diet for financial reasons, especially fasting to save money. I didn’t grow up with enough food to eat, I can’t imagine asking you to keep food to fix my financial mistakes.
