Can you cheat on Medifast and still lose weight?

I am often asked how much cheating is allowed in Medifast or if I will still lose weight if I cheat. Well, I guess that depends on what you mean by cheating. Because technically, I've been cheating on my diet all the time. However, I think there is a safe and effective way to do it, which I will discuss in the following article.

Understand how Medifast really works: The reason why this diet is so effective is really triple. First, you simply eat fewer calories than you would normally consume, since foods are low in calories and carbohydrates. Second, you are eating six small meals during the day, which helps speed up your metabolism and fight hunger. Finally, because you consume less carbohydrates and a greater amount of protein, your body enters a metabolic state called ketosis that encourages you to burn your own fat.

Ketosis is really the promised land of this diet and where you finally want to be. You can try this by using ketone strips, which definitely tell you if you have reached this state. (You can get them at almost any pharmacy or super center).

Does cheating on the Medifast diet get you out of ketosis? You will stop losing weight so quickly and so dramatically if you fall from ketosis. However, the good news is that it only takes a few days to re-enter. Therefore, there really is no need to panic if you notice the ketone strips that are outside. And, you are much more likely to get out of this state if you cheat by eating carbohydrates. You'll be in a much better way if you cheat with protein. So, technically, it is better to strain a juicy hamburger than to try to strain a donut or a piece of cake.

The trick that I think has really helped me lose weight with Medifast: Well, now I will admit that I don't always stick to things as they were designed. But, I'm smart about it. I add things to my prepackaged food several times a day. What I mean by this is that I add fat-free and sugar-free syrups to milkshakes, puddings and cappuccino. Sometimes I also add fat free whipped cream. I also add fat-free cheese, sour cream and hummus to chili, eggs and soups / stews. Sometimes I also add soda water to milkshakes for a source soda drink. I use the dry pudding ingredients to make "safe" muffins, cakes and cookies.

In short, I take a lot of freedoms with food, but I try to use fat-free or sugar-free ingredients when I do this. This gives me more variety and I'm more excited about eating food.

The freedoms I take with lean and green food: Each day, you will eat five prepackaged meals with this diet and prepare a meal yourself. (Some people will skip this meal, but you shouldn't do it because I think doing this will slow down your metabolism. I have experimented with this and it has almost always decreased my results.) It is supposed to eat lean and vegetable proteins of low glycemic index and, for the most part, I keep this. But, if my family is eating minced meat, sometimes I am not going to make chicken breast just for me. Or, if my family has sweet green peas, I will not refuse because I have a high glycemic index. And sometimes, I don't refuse a hamburger if I take the bread off.

I imagine that if I am eating a "lean and mostly green meal", I am pretty good. And even with the small slides, I still consume a LOT less calories and carbohydrates than normal. And, if my weight loss is an indication, I'm fine.
